A call for change, a philosophy of hope

The Obama-Biden campaign calls for change, and embraces a philosophy of hope for the future. I am a strong supporter, and I believe their message is right on. However, I also believe it is wrong to pretend that we have not progressed in the last 30 years, or 20, or 10, or even 5. As I look back at even the most recent history, I see an accelerating social evolution occurring in which people are expecting progressively more out of themselves and each other and their government. I see a people who have begun to willfully and deliberately expand the reach of the environment from which they draw information to make decisions from a small, local environment to a global environment. And speaking of "environment", there is another area that, to me, shows obvious progression. Just imagine the reaction just 10 years ago to the enviro-centric dialogue that is a normal part of the consumer/civic conversation today. In the 70's, if you cared about the environment, you were a tree hugger. Today, if you care about the environment, you probably just have cable. You're normal. You're NOT a douche bag. Gay marriage - Look at 5 years ago. Then, five before that, etc. My point? We are quickly socially and politically evolving, as globalization reveals truths to us that were previously found out over decades. Solutions are at the cusp of every conversation, and the conversations are multiplying and diversifying. The internet is central to this evolution - It, too, has made great strides, with sites like wikipedia, youtube, myspace, etc., that have exposed people to the world and the information it holds on a scale and with an immediacy that is only made more powerful by the organization of their operation.

The Obama-Biden campaign is a symbol of this new reality. We are a more aware citizenry than ever before, and more sophisticated and worldly than ever. We are striving for the next dialectic, and it is coming - sooner than it ever was before, and with the next antithesis already at its back. It's a wonderful time.
